News from the North, Autumn 2022

Fishing for Schools coaches Dave Woodhead and Richard Jamieson delivered four sessions during the Autumn term to students at Wales High School in Sheffield. Sessions took place at Aston Park Fisheries, Rotherham.

The sessions were based around four fishing matches with poles. Bait was limited to maggot and pellet on a snake lake to give an equal and fast opportunity for all to catch.

Students learnt about plumbing for depth, shotting patterns (to assist in their mathematics) and playing and unhooking the fish safely. Scoring was based on fish numbers (keep nets are not permitted without a fishery invigilator) and an average was taken to establish the overall winner.

All pupils qualified for their Level One Cast Awards; Richard and Dave will present at a separate event in the near future.

Well done to all involved!
