Why become a Patron

By joining the Fishing for Schools Patron programme, you become part of our family of supporters who are helping to shape the future of Fishing for Schools.

You will support our vital work delivering impactful learning experiences for the hundreds of young people who engage in our programme each year.

We all learn differently

Many young people struggle to engage with their learning in the traditional school environment, but given the opportunity to learn creatively outdoors, they flourish.

Fishing for Schools builds confidence and a sense of achievement through fishing and the natural world.  We offer a respite from day-to-day challenges and offer the wellbeing benefits of being outdoors and close to nature. We also help break down the barriers to learning and help young people grow in confidence.

Fishing for Schools works with young people, especially those with complex needs, including physical and mental difficulties. Our programme allows the young people to benefit from learning to fish, to experience a new challenge and to learn a new skill that they can take forward into their adult lives.

Our feedback from past participants and schools have shown the positive and real impact of Fishing for Schools on the health, welfare and education of the young people participating.

Fishing for Schools Impact Report
2007-2019

Since 2007, Fishing for Schools has taken disadvantaged children and young people out of the
classroom and into the countryside, helping them re-engage and thrive in school, educational life and
beyond the classroom. Our concept is to offer fishing related topics as a way back into formal education and learning.

How you can help

Our Patron community will play a vital role in driving forward our mission to improve the prospects of disadvantaged children by educating through angling.

Our Patron scheme also provides a crucial source of income to enable us to continue our existing work, to develop new angling related initiatives and to support our ambition to give all young people an opportunity to learn through angling.

“Having been an enthusiastic admirer of Fishing for Schools ever since its earliest days, I feel privileged to have become an ambassador as it seems to me to be everything such a charity should be. It is run in impressively streamlined fashion, and you can see exactly where the funding goes; and the results are readily visible, too, on the faces of those many young people who have never before had the happy experience (which some of us perhaps take for granted) of fun and a fresh perspective away from the Great Indoors. The enterprising Charlie Jardine has been a good friend of mine for over forty years, and I feel he and his exceptionally dedicated team deserve every last bit of support so they can continue - and expand - the invaluable work they do for the next generation.’

“I have seen first-hand the profound positive impact Fishing for Schools has on our students. From pupils that struggle to engage in the classroom, to others that have low self-esteem; students whose backgrounds can make it impossible for them to access extra-curricular activities or the chance to find or practice a hobby - they have all been able to access fishing and use it to build their confidence, relate to other students and foster positive relationships throughout school.”
